Wow. One of my fave old Journey tunes, off Escape.

Smith plays some nice stuff on that orig tune.
& Perry is at his wailing finest.

Deen sings lead on THAT one while playing it AW?
Nice. [Augeri & the boys evidently wanted to let him do it if he was that competent.]

Now let's see him do Dixie Highway...;c)

He sings more than that...and he sounds so damn good.

Maybe he doesn't get enough credit for how multi-talented he is.

He's as good as Phil at playing and singing.

You gotta get that boot dood.

One thing though, he "rocks" those fills out a little bit too much. Smith was really slick whereas Deen just goes ballistic a bit.

Not that that's bad, just a lot different.

There was def something about Stv's jazz-influenced rock feel, ideas, & inflection...& those Sonors of his w the Journey stuff...

Sorry if this sounds a tad presumptuous [as it's not the intention], but if I were to humbly guess , I bet you mean the second-to-last fill [the 3rd fill of 4 near the end b4 the outro] from Smith's orig rendition of Mother Father...from memory, the one where he's playing 'brisk' singles, 16th-note-trip goupings - of 4 per drum, but within a triplet grouping like 3:2 [or 6:4], from sn-tom1-tom2-sn-tom3-tom4...if i recall correctly from remembrance...someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Those first 3 fills [including this 3rd one] are all very nice anyway indeed...the 1st being a 16th-note pattern between sn/DB/toms...the 2nd being an 8th-note trip from sn down the toms, with a couple of flams thrown in, 1st on the sn, then on a low tom near the end of the fill].

AND he was the one to come up w them.

You presumptuous bastid!

Right, the 3:2 singles fill. I forgot about the patented Steve Machine Gun Smith dramatic flam-filled fill leading into the out section...

Deen turned it into a scatterchot tom/BD metal fest fill.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ah, well, coming from Deen, I guess that's OK too. ;c)

And hey, no, really, I'm not PRESUMPTUOUS...

Most of the time.

As to the other part of the remark, well...
